Our Purpose

Stories shape how we see the world. They challenge assumptions, spark dialogue, and bring communities together around shared experiences.

Reels & Roots was created to harness that power.

Too often, cities like Indianapolis and other mid-sized communities are overlooked when it comes to screenings of independent and socially impactful films. Important stories premiere in larger markets, while many communities are left without access to the conversations those films are meant to spark. We believe those stories belong everywhere.

Reels & Roots is a community-centered film collective dedicated to bringing powerful stories to Indianapolis through film screenings, conversations, and cultural programming. We believe film is more than entertainment. It is a catalyst for understanding, connection, and social change.

Our work focuses on films that explore culture, identity, justice, and the lived experiences of communities whose stories are too often overlooked. By pairing screenings with thoughtful dialogue and community partnerships, we create spaces where audiences can engage with both the stories on screen and the real-world issues they reflect.

At its core, Reels & Roots exists to connect people through storytelling.

Our Leadership

Through curated screenings, filmmaker conversations, and partnerships with local organizations, we are building a space where film becomes a starting point for dialogue, learning, and collective action in our community.

Reels & Roots is led by a group of storytellers, strategists, and community advocates who believe in the power of film to inspire conversation and create change.

Looking Ahead

Reels & Roots is just getting started.

As we continue to grow, our goal is to expand opportunities for filmmakers, audiences, and community partners to engage with stories that inform, challenge, and inspire.

Through film screenings, conversations with filmmakers and experts, and partnerships with local organizations, we hope to create experiences that stay with audiences long after the credits roll.

Because the right story, shared at the right moment, can spark something powerful.
